Pieter Aertsen was a Dutch painter known for his innovative style in the mid-16th century. He was a pioneer in depicting genre scenes with religious or moralistic themes, often combined with still-lifes. Aertsen's paintings became famous for his detailed and realistic depictions of everyday life, including market scenes and kitchen interiors. His work influenced later artists like Joachim Beuckelaer and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
