Origins

Andrea Pozzo was an Italian Jesuit Brother, Baroque architect, and painter who is best known for his illusionistic ceiling paintings. Active in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, Pozzo's elaborate frescoes created the illusion of architectural elements blending with the actual structure of the building.
