Origins

Chantal Akerman's visual style is characterized by long takes, minimalistic compositions, and an emphasis on space and time. Her work gained fame during the 1970s and 1980s, particularly with her pioneering film 'Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles' (1975). Akerman's use of long, uninterrupted shots and her exploration of domestic spaces paved the way for a new wave of feminist filmmaking.
